Cambridge is a city in Cambridgeshire with an estimated population of 150,000, of which approximately 25,000 are students.

Founded in 1209, Cambridge is most famously known for its University, and is still regarded as one of the world’s five best universities.

Cambridge is located just 50 miles north of London, situated on the River Cam where punting trips are regularly taken by tourists and many of the locals, including students.

In 1894, the first ever recorded game of football was played in Cambridge, which took place on Parker’s Piece. Played under ‘Cambridge Rules’, they formed the beginnings of what the FA now bases its official rules, drawn up in 1863.

Cambridge has been long inhabited, going all the way back to prehistoric times, with the recent discovery of a 3,500-year-old farmstead.

Just outside the city centre is a Roman fort called Duroliponte, said to have been constructed around AD 70. Since the Romans withdrew from Britain in 410, the fort was abandoned until invading Saxons occupied the area.
