Neatly nestled by the River Waveney in the picturesque village district of the same namesake, Beccles is one of the fastest growing market towns in the county.
Once a flourishing Anglian riverport, Beccles is now a popular boating centre decorated with quirky independent shops, restaurants, cafes and other services that make it an appealing place to live.
Residents hold plenty of community events, festivals and entertainment throughout the year. The popular quayside area of the town is the Southern Gateway to The Broads National Park.
Despite the burgeoning population the strong planning ethos ensure this stunning market town remains picturesque and doesn’t become over developed.
The town operates trains to Lowestoft (18 mins), Woodbridge (53 mins) and Suffolk’s capital, Ipswich which can be reached in just over an hour, as can Norfolk’s capital, Norwich.
Beccles highlights include:
Village and coastal life combined – situated close to the Suffolk coast and some delightful villages to explore such as Southwold, Dunwich, Aldeburgh and Thorpeness.
Character and charm – A large part of Beccles is located in a conservation area with a considerable number of listed buildings, including the detached 16th century bell.
Schooled up – good mix of high performing state primary and secondary schools.
Outdoors lifestyle – There are plenty of opportunities to take to the river including canoe, kayak, or boating and dip in the ever-popular Beccles lido.

There are lots of community activities to get involved with and the annual carnival is well attended and supported by several charity groups, as is the Beccles Food & Drink Festival.
Beccles Lido, an outdoor heated swimming pool which sits alongside the river is one of the town’s star attractions and is very busy during the summer months.
Just a half hour’s walk from the town is the River Waveney itseld which is perfect for canoeing, kayaking and a wide range of water adventure sports. You’ll see otters, kingfishers, marsh harriers, water voles and barn owls.
If that’s not adventurous enough, according to TripAdvisor, the most popular thing to do in the town is parachuting! UK Parachuting offers solo and tandem dives from Beccles Airfield and they do some charity dives too, raising money for great local causes.
For a more relaxing afternoon, Henstead Exotic Garden is packed full of exotic plants, palms, banana trees and ferns. It also has three large ponds, streams, 30-foot tiered wooden walkway leading to a raised Thai style Pavilion, giving fantastic views over the garden.
