Felixstowe Academy High School is housed in new state-of-the-art facilities costing over £19 million. The school accommodates children aged 11 to 19 and offers a range of further education courses, primarily at A Level, as well as several specialised vocational courses.
Independent fee-paying schools include Felixstowe International College. The school is an Ofsted rated “outstanding” school and was recently named the best school in the whole of Suffolk.
There is also a wide selection of special needs schools which cater for children with disabilities such as dyslexia, challenging behaviour and other learning difficulties.
Living in Felixstowe
As a vibrant British seaside town Felixstowe has all the traditional offerings from the landmark pier, Ocean Boulevard and Manning’s Amusements.
Nature lovers can enjoy the Landguard Nature Reserve and the tiny fishing village of Felixstowe Ferry which is perfect for birdwatching, sailing, and of course… fishing.
There are two main leisure facilities in the town: the Brackenbury Sports Centre in Old Felixstowe and the Felixstowe Leisure Centre adjacent to the pier. Both showcase a range of outdoor and indoor activities such as tennis and football to fully equipped gyms offering a range of exercise classes from spinning to yoga.
For a more peaceful leisure pursuit the newly restored Seafront Gardens, with their colourful and unusual planting, are a lovely place to stroll through. The gardens have some beautiful views overlooking the sea.
One of the most highly rated attractions is Landguard Fort, standing at the mouth of the River Orwell. The site is packed full of interesting exhibits showcasing its fascinating history and guided tours are highly recommended.
