Schools in Hadleigh
Hadleigh is served by three primary schools within the local catchment area with one secondary school providing education for children aged 11-16.
The town’s three primaries, St Mary’s CofE, Beaumont Community and Hadleigh Community were all rated ‘good’ following their latest Ofsted inspections.
The local secondary, Hadleigh High School forms part of the South Suffolk Learning Trust with three other schools and has capacity for around 750 students.
It was last inspected by Ofsted in January, following which it was also rated as ‘Good’.
One of the closest colleges is Suffolk New College in Ipswich. It provides courses for students from across south Suffolk. In 2009 it constructed a new building costing £70 million.
The report heaped praise on the incoming headteacher and her ‘ambitious places to redevelop the school’s curriculum supported by a capable and versatile team of senior leaders, governors and staff who are proud to be members of the school community’.
Living in Hadleigh
Hadleigh has a friendly and welcoming community with an extensive social calendar and a range of different sport, hobby and interest groups to get involved with.
As a major market town, the busy farmers’ market, which takes place every Friday is not to be missed. Get down early to nab some locally made chutneys, cheeses and pies, or even fresh seafood from the Suffolk coast.
The annual Hadleigh Show is one of the oldest one-day agricultural shows in East Anglia. There are a range of traditional activities to try your hand at from archery to clay pigeon shooting as well as cookery lessons and even… monster trucks!
In the lively town centre there are some great pubs and restaurants to tick off, including The Ram and the White Horse which are particularly popular with the locals.
Two Tree Island a nature reserve, run by Essex Wildlife Trust is a popular spot for ‘tweeters’, a range of wild birds who nest here annually, including Waders, Avocets and gulls. There are several bird hides where you can get up close and observe the birds.
