    Why Move to Cromer

Cromer is perched on the very edge of the north Norfolk coast, and is renowned for its tasty crabs, which have been a major source of income for local fishermen for centuries.

A one-time luxury Victorian resort town, much of the wealth has now left its shores, but the stunning terrace homes have remained and offer some real bargains in the current property market.

The town oozes seaside charm with two Blue Flag beaches, a traditional pier with a theatre providing special variety shows and quirky small local independent shops.

Various areas in the town have been used as TV and movie sets with world renowned shows such as Monty Python and Doctor Who having been filmed here. The BBC recently filmed a heart-warming Christmas film here also.

The award-winning North Norfolk coastal path passes through the area and provides a stunning backdrop for coastal walks.

    Cromer highlights include:

    • Life’s a beach — four lovely sandy beaches to choose from, two of which are designated Blue Flag status
    • Transport connections to Norwich (45 mins), the international airport and further afield
    • A good choice of local amenities and a thriving community spirit
    • Home to the RNLI Cromer Lifeboat Station
    • A range of sports clubs and leisure facilities, including a highly regarded golf club

Although prices are above the average for Norfolk, owing to its stunning coastal locations, there are some real bargains to be had.

On at a guide price of £80,000 is a two-bedroom cottage which is spread over three floors and offers two bedrooms on the first floor with sea views, an ideal renovation project with someone with an eye for design and detail.

If you are intending to rent a property in the area you can expect to pay from £644 per month for a one bedroomed apartment and £1095 per month for a three bedroomed detached home.

Cromer is a relatively small town with just the one high school, the recently converted, Cromer Academy.

Ofsted noted during its last inspections that it was ‘a good school with outstanding leadership and student welfare’.

For sixth-form education, children can travel along the coast to Sheringham or Paston College in North Walsham, with further options available in Norwich.

In terms of primaries there are two in the town itself:

    • Cromer Junior has capacity for around 280 pupils aged between 5 to 11 years of age and,
    • Suffield Park Infants, smaller school with an attached nursery provision.

    Living in Cromer

Cromer has a thriving local spirit with a wide range of community groups to get involved with. These range from a gardening club to the Women’s Institute, bowling to quilting.

A varied schedule of village events take place throughout the year, where local craftsmen and businesses open stalls selling crafts, chutney’s, jams, cakes and charcuterie among other things.

In the summer months, the town celebrates its maritime heritage with the festival celebrations of the Cromer Carnival, and a separate event to commemorate the crabs and lobsters.

Streets are closed off to traffic and hundreds of people line the pavements to cheer the colourful floats. All proceeds collected are given to charity.

With great sandy beaches, surfing and plenty of water related attractions, a day spent at the seaside is a popular pastime, with a traditional fish and chip supper to round off the day.

To brush up on the town’s history ‘step back in time’ to the 19th century through the Cromer Museum where you can look inside a Victorian fisherman’s cottage. Or delve into the ‘Old Cromer’ Gallery with its displays of historic photographs and illustrations of the town.
