Schools in Harlow
Families moving to Harlow will have plenty of choice when it comes to primary education. All but three of Harlow’s state primary schools are rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.
For older children and teenagers there are six state-funded secondary schools in the town in total.
Stewards Academy, Mark Hall Academy and St Marks West Essex Catholic School (which also offers a sixth form) were all awarded an overall rating of ‘Good’ by Ofsted with Burnt Mill Academy achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating.
St Nicholas School is a fee-paying independent school catering for both boys and girls aged 3 to 16. Set among 14 acres it is divided into lower, middle and upper schools and boasts outstanding facilities. These include science laboratories, a heated swimming pool and even its own theatre.
Harlow has plenty of excellent colleges including Harlow College. A sixth form and further education provider which offers a range of vocational courses for school leavers. It also offers degree courses in the university centre as well as apprenticeships and adult courses.
Living & Working in Harlow
Harlow is the entertainment centre of Essex with no shortage of activities on offer. From heart-raising nights out at the greyhound track to cabaret performances at the local theatre.
Harlow’s town centre plays an important role as a key shopping and leisure location. Almost completely free of roads within the shopping areas, the centre has the first ever pedestrian thoroughfare in the country, as well as an indoor mall.
It also enjoys solid employment prospects. Raytheon (a major US defence contractor) and pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline both have large premises within the town and employ a large number of residents. Public Health England (PHE) is also developing a science campus and headquarters in Harlow.
