The sun appears to have gone missing these past few days, so now seems as good a time as any to look back at one of our highlights of the summer.
Last month, in scorching temperatures of over 30 degrees, teams from across the Suffolk region lined up to compete in a GoodMove sponsored event at the prestigious Boxford & District Bowls Club on 8 August. The event is believed to be the largest one-day bowling event in Suffolk and attracted 88 bowlers and a substantial number of spectators.
A team from Boxford itself, led by Lea Blackham, Glen Loe, Gary Whiteman and Graham Skillen, ran out as eventual winners, seeing off stiff competition from Bildeston in the final. The victors were presented with their prize money and a winner’s shield by club president, Les Clark.
Participants and spectators were kept well fed and watered throughout the day with a delicious lunch and tea served courtesy of the ‘Boxford Ladies’. A ‘spider’ bowling competition was also held among competitors and spectators before the semi-finals which raised £140 for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice.
Speaking after the event, George Christinis, branch manager at GoodMove said:
“Having long been servicing the moving needs of the Suffolk region, GoodMove are always delighted to get involved in the local community and support fantastic events such as these that raise valuable funds for great causes.”
